Experience: License renewal at New Jersey DMV on F1 OPT

My morning started off early today. The DMV at Somerville, NJ is open on Saturday for limited hours from 8AM to 1PM. I did do my research on documents required to renew drivers license and got some idea. NJ follows 6-point system and according to DMV website, majority of points for a foreign national is the passport with valid visa and i94, followed by i20/EAD card. Before I continue with information that I learnt checking websites, let me list the documents required based on my experience at DMV today. 1. Passport with Valid F1 Visa 2. I-94 document 3. SSN document 4. EAD card 5. Latest Form I-20 6. Address proof 7. Debit Card As one enters the DMV, wait for the receptionist to give a small form for license initial/renewal. Once the form is filled up, head to license counter and show the documents, people at the counter patiently verify and suggest documents required/missing. If satisfactory, head to another queue where they look at the documents again, click a picture, ...

Love for Cereals - Raisin Bran

Image
I love cereals. I do. I await to have a bowl of cereal for breakfast every morning. This may surprise many but I love, milk and cereals. Sounds routine but not, I experiment a lot. I try new cereals and relish the trial experiences.  This time around, I have decided to write a post on Raisin Bran's new additions. I remember the first time I was introduced to a box of Raisin Bran cereals. I didn't like them at all, I felt they were too hard and as I always have cold milk, it takes time for the cereal flakes to soften after soaking in the milk bowl. The flakes are shaped as normal corn flakes but are made of wheat bran. The added raisins play the part of natural sweetener. No sugar needs to be added, and I suggest not to add any sugar too. After having the cereals for couple of days and realizing the nutritional value, I say I love it. I always buy the big box 78Oz of Raisin Bran cereals at Costco. Lately, I started trying out different Raisin Bran options offered f...

My Experience of witnessing LIVE launch of PSLV C23 & PM Narendra Modi at Sriharikota.

Image
Indian Space Research Organisation launched its 114th mission, PSLV C-23 successfully. The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle was launched at 9.52 AM on June 30th, 2014 from Sriharikota carrying five foreign satellites. The launch was attended by our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. He applauded as PSLV standing around 44.4 metres tall and weighing around 230 tonnes, tore into the bright morning sky with flames fiercely burning at its tail and described it as “global endorsement of India’s space capability”. Prime Minister reached island of Sriharikota on June 29th, Sunday. The peaceful and calm island turned into a power house over night! I always thought of my house in Sriharikota as a weekend resort, being employed in a city. But this weekend of mine turned out to be otherwise. Police, Guards, CISF and SPG forces everywhere. This was the first time I watched the PM's 30 car convoy run by my house. What was big, the launch or PM's presence? I would say both. Launch...

Kerala Diaries: A beautiful experience.

Image
Kerala, God’s Own Country. Travel and Leisure names Kerala as "One of the 100 great trips for the 21st century". Indeed, true! One of the finest places I have visited. Green Green, everywhere! We visited Kerala during my final year summer vacation. South India is damn hot anywhere in summer, but then Kerala was different in terms of soothing wind and monsoon rains, yet indifferent to hot sun at noon. The vastness and diversity of the landscape and life in Kerala is huge. All the tourist places are well-connected to almost all the major cities by road and traveling by road is a pleasurable experience because of the good roads, pleasant atmosphere and surrounding green backdrop. Kerala is blessed with backwaters, beaches, hills, valleys, palaces and forts. It is complete package to fantasize every visitor to the state. We planned to visit Maritime city of Kochi, Divinity of Guruvayur, Green valleys of Munnar, House-boats of Allepey, Beaches of Kovalam and Viv...

Kerala Diaries: Kochi.

Image
Kochi, a beautiful maritime city defined by beaches, backwaters and rich ancient past. It projects a unified mix of the colonial past and the diversity of modern India. We reached the city past noon, in time to freshen up and board the ‘ Sagara rani ’, a prestigious vessel operated by Kerala Shipping Corporation offering luxurious trips in the backwaters of Kochi. We had the pleasure of watching sunset in the west and a sparsely visible moon on the other side. We reached the shore at night, in time to have a good dinner. With lots of pictures clicked and a joyful ride of 'Sagararani' in the 'Sagar', it was a memorable experience. The day next, we became true tourists exploring the new land with some really colorful umbrellas to protect from hot sun, coconut water right under the tree, freshly prepared banana chips to eat along the way, buying some natural spices and oils, collecting different seashells, strolling in the beaches and clicking random pi...
